Course Description
This course, which covers a great variety of subjects selected from contemporary anthologies in different writing styles, is designed to help students acquire a fairly high degree petence. To plish this goal, students will receive intensive training in reading skills as well as in other basic language skills. Students will learn to develop their analysis and reference skills so that they may be able to think independently and work on their own.
Course Objectives
Encourage students to modate themselves to self-directed learning with the help of English-English dictionaries and access to library and resources
Activate students’ background knowledge about topics covered in the textbook
Expand students’ repertoire in the areas of vocabulary, grammar and discourse analysis
Promote students’ cross-cultural awareness and sensitivity
Review, remedy and put to use what the students have already learned in the past
Students Will Be Able To
Increase their linguistic repertoire petence
Describe or explain in general terms the topics covered in the textbooks
Recognize and understand different types or styles of texts and their corresponding linguistic characteristics such as the use of certain rhetorical devices
