13、People have understood that kindness is good for the person who receives help. For example,
when we give food to a hungry person,he is lucky. However, scientists have recently begun to study the effect(影响)of the kindness on the person giving it. What they have found is that doing good is good for the doer(行为者).Acts of kindness can improve health, help a person reach goals and even add years to a person's life.
The first study to show the connection between doing good and living a long life was a study on aging(衰老). Beginning in 1956,scientists studied a group of married mothers for 30 years. They thought the women with the most children would die first. But the number of children a woman had did not matter. Wealth did not matter. Education did not matter. What did matter was whether they volunteered. Women that volunteered had fewer diseases during their life.
Many other studies have found the same positive(积极的)effects. Helping other people improves long-term health. The gains are the same for men, women, old people and the young. Those who volunteered had fewer serious diseases than those who did not volunteer. This included diseases such as heart attack, cancer and stroke.
Scientists are studying many possible causes. One possible cause is an increase in antibodies(抗体),which help fight against disease. One study showed the body produces more antibodies after an act of kindness.
Another one is an increase in Oxytocin(催生素),it is a chemical that fights the effects of stress from life. Scientists have found a link between being kind to people and an increase in the chemical .What does the study in Paragraph 2 show?

14、 China is a great country with the largest population in the world. In order to solve the population problem, our government carried out one﹣child policy (政 策)before. When it is carried out for some time, many people not only see its advantages but also disadvantages.
From 2016, two﹣child policy is put into effect. In my opinion, two﹣child policy is good. First of all, two﹣child policy is the gift for some only child. For some families, maybe the parents are only child and they also can have only child. Besides the loneliness of their child, when their child grows up and they grow older, their child marry an only child girl, the burden(负担)on their child and his
wife is too heavy. Their child and his wife have to take care of two couples. Usually, a young couple looking after an old couple is a little difficult. But if their parents have two children, they can share the burden of taking care of their parents. It would be much better. Secondly, two﹣child policy can guarantee (保证) the number of Chinese population.
All in all, one﹣child policy has been out of date. And two﹣child policy is needed and necessary. It can solve the problems of nowadays (现在)and the future.

15、Have you ever felt a strong emotion (情绪), but not been able to find the right word to describe it? Maybe there is a word for it, but you just don’t know it yet. One man is trying to help fix this problem. University of East London psychology researcher Tim Lomas is making a list of words from different languages around the world. The words have no exact equivalent(对等的) words or phrases in the English language. Perhaps the most famous example is “schadenfreude”, the German word describing pleasure at the bad luck of others.
Borrowing from as many languages as he could, Lomas searched for “untranslatable” experiences and published them in The Journal of Positive Psychology last year. His study is called the Positive Lexicography Project. Lomas has focused mostly on happy moments. He hopes that learning these words will enrich (使丰富) people’s lives. So now, thanks to the Portuguese(葡萄牙语), when you run your fingers through a loved one’s hair you can call it “cafune”. Or you can use the Spanish word “estrenar” to describe the feeling when you wear or use something for the first time. The Germans describe the good mood at the end of a working day as “feierabend”, while the Norwegians describe the feeling of sitting around a warm fireplace as “peiskos”.
“The limits of our language are said to define the boundaries of our world,” Lomas wrote for The Conversation. “If we lack (缺乏) a word for a particular positive emotion, we are far less likely to experience it.”

16、Yesterday my son, daughter and I went to the grocery store. In front of us in line was a little girl with her mother. The little girl was asking her mother for a box of Smarties. The polite way she was asking almost broke the mother’s heart, “I’m sorry, Honey, but we have no money to buy it.”
My son was watching that dialogue. By the way, he had been raking(用耙子耙)leaves our garden to raise himself some money to buy a bike. As he watched the mother and daughter leave the store, he ran to the candy counter(柜台)and bought a box of Smarties with the money .
He turned to look at me and I just nodded. He ran out after the little girl and her mother and he gave them the box. He came back and told me what he told them. “Every kid should have a pack of Smarties because they can make you smart.”
I was so excited that I bought a pack of Smarties for my son. I told him that I was proud of him, and that was for his act of generosity because he gave his own Smarties to others. Quickly, he replied, “But you do nice things for people and you never get anything for it.”I explained, “When you do something nice for someone, you shouldn’t expect to get anything. When you get something you should be very thankful.”
