Knowledge aims：
To make the Ss master birthday food.
To have the Ss master the words and phrases: birthday food, cake, candle, noodles, blow out, make a wish, cut up, lucky, long life.
Ability aims：
To develop the Ss’ abilities of listening, speaking, reading and writing .
To train the Ss’ ability of working in groups.
Emotional aims：
To enable the Ss to grasp the reading skills.
To enable the Ss to get some important information by themselves.

Teaching process:
Step 1: warm - up
Let students listen to a song--- a birthday song.
T: what do you eat on your birthday?
Students: Cake, noodles, egg…
Step2: Fast – reading
Today we are going to know birthday food around the world. Now, I’ll give you 2mins to read the passage, and then fill the chart.

After 2 minutes, ask two students to write their answers on the blackboard, others write on their books, at last check the answers.
Step 3: Careful – reading
Just now we have gotten some ideas about birthday food around .the world. Now we are going to get more details about it.

2. After 5 minutes, let students look at the picture. (It’s on the PPT). There are twelve “ ” in the picture. Each naught stands for a question. Those questions include the questions on the book, translation, or reading a paragraph and so on.

Secondly all students listen to the tape, don't look at their books. When they hear their group’s name, stand up and sit down quickly.
Step 5: Consolidation
Imagine today is your friend’s birthday, write your present on your paper, and then tell us its special meaning.
