Maybe most people know that there is water pollution, air pollution and noise pollution around us, but few people know that there is another kind of pollution—light pollution. In fact, it can be everywhere, depending on the time of the day.
Light pollution is the result of the wasted energy. Instead of providing light for people on the earth, most bright light shines into the sky, because people don’t design lights(灯) very well. At the same time, lights are brighter than necessary. All these cause light pollution. Stars in the night sky always provide everyone with wonderful sights(景色), but light pollution prevents them from being seen.
Some scientists say that light pollution can also bring some health problems to people, especially to kids. So it’s the high time for us to do something useful to stop light pollution.
根据短文内容,判断下列句子旳正(T)误(F)。
( )26. Light pollution isn’t serious enough for us to stop it now.
( )27. All the people know light pollution well today.
( )28. Most light shines into the sky instead of providing light for people.

I was going to give a speech (讲演). I arrived at the hall with my mum. I was nervous. I watched all the other speakers. They were great.
It was my turn. I slowly walked up to the stage. “I forgot my speech. It was a great speech,” I said sadly. I saw that the audience wanted to listen to what I would say next.
“It was about animals, drama, stories, and just about everything. I had ten reasons why you should own a chicken, but I can only remember one. It makes your lawn nice and pretty. I had a drama thing about Shakespeare, but now I can’t remember anything. You see, I can’t remember things very clearly. My speech would have lasted for a very long time. I had a description of the storybook Green Eggs and Ham. I also had a description of the movie Elf. They were great, but I can’t remember any of them. I want to say ‘ ▲ ’, especially to my mother.”
The audience looked around at each other. Someone started clapping and then more and more people joined in. I walked off the stage.

“And the winner is” said the host, “Stacy Jay!” That was me. I didn’t even have a speech. They thought that was the speech. My mother was very pleased, and so was I.

It seems that Shanghai students are not as happy as they should be. That’s what an article in a local newspaper said recently.
The paper did a survey(调查) of some students and asked them if they were happy. 60% of the students said they were happy, but almost 40% said they were unhappy! However, when the paper asked deaf(聋旳) students the same question, almost 90% said they were happy. It’s surprising when you think about it. Those students who have a disability(残疾) are happier than their “healthier” classmates or schoolmates.
When I asked my students if they were happy, most said yes, but they also said they had a lot of pressure: too much homework, not enough freedom, not enough money. And some worry about the future, such as getting a good job, and finding a good husband or wife. Clearly, some students handle(处理) the pressure better than others, and the deaf students seem to handle the pressure best of all. They don’t let it get them down.
I can only imagine why this is. Maybe it has a lot to do with “overcoming adversity(战胜逆境)”. The deaf students have already had to deal with a big problem in their lives. They can’t hear, so talking to other people is very difficult, if not impossible. To communicate with others, they’ve had to learn sign language. After learning to “sign”, they’ve found new friends and they’ve also found the joy that comes with “overcoming adversity”.
We can all learn a lesson from these deaf students.
