Abstract:
Aflatoxins are a group of toxins produced by Aspergillus fungi, commonly found in grains, legumes, and other foods. Long-term exposure to aflatoxins can have negative effects on animal health and production performance. This review provides an overview and analysis of the effects of aflatoxins on blood parameters, reproductive organ development, and estrogen receptor expression in weaned piglets, and provides insight into future research directions.
Introduction:
Aflatoxins are fungal toxins found in food, and their impact on animal health and production performance has received significant attention. In recent years, researchers have conducted extensive studies on the effects of aflatoxins on weaned piglets. This review aims to summarize and analyze these studies to understand the potential effects of aflatoxins on weaned piglets.
Methods:
This review adopts a literature analysis method to collect and organize relevant literature on the effects of aflatoxins on blood parameters, reproductive organ development, and estrogen receptor expression in weaned piglets. The collected studies analyze the toxic effects of aflatoxins from different perspectives.
Results:
Aflatoxins can affect the blood parameters of weaned piglets through multiple pathways. Studies have found that exposure to aflatoxins leads to a significant decrease in red blood cell count, white blood cell count, and hemoglobin levels in weaned piglets, and serum biochemistry parameters are also affected to varying degrees. Moreover, aflatoxins can also influence the development of reproductive organs in weaned piglets. Studies have shown that exposure to aflatoxins inhibits the size of ovaries and uteruses in female piglets, and testicular weight is also reduced in male piglets. Additionally, aflatoxins can impact estrogen receptor expression in weaned piglets, resulting in disruption of the reproductive hormone signaling pathway.
Conclusion:
Aflatoxins have negative effects on blood parameters, reproductive organ development, and estrogen receptor expression in weaned piglets. However, current research on the effects of aflatoxins on weaned piglets is relatively limited and further studies are needed.
Outlook:
Future research can focus on the following aspects: (1) Further clarification of the mechanisms and toxic effects of aflatoxins on weaned piglets; (2) Comparing the effects of different types and doses of aflatoxins on weaned piglets; (3) Identifying and assessing strategies for preventing and controlling aflatoxins to mitigate their adverse effects on weaned piglets.
Keywords: aflatoxins; weaned piglets; blood parameters; reproductive organ development; estrogen receptor expression
