About me: I love all outdoor activities, especially playing ball games, traveling, and climbing. I play the guitar, and can say that I’m really good at it. I also like playing chess, but I don’t play it well. If you’re good at it, maybe you can teach me. I’m going to college this September. All I really want to do during the summer holiday is travel, teach, and learn languages (this is my hobby), see things, and build great friendships. I’d like people aged 17-20 to get in touch with me, both girls and boys. It’s better if you’re from Beijing or Tokyo. I’ve made 15 friends over the Internet. If you’d like to be one of them, send me an email at ******@. My MSN is ******@. I’d love to be your friend!

For many years, I strongly believed that my suffering was because of my size. I imagined that when the weight disappeared, it would take old wounds, hurts and rejections with it.
Many people with weight problems also mistakenly believe that changing our bodies will fix everything. Perhaps our mistake is believing that being thin equals being loved, being special, and being cared for. We fantasize(幻想) about what it will be like when we reach the long-awaited goal. We work very hard to realize this dream. Then, at last, we find ourselves there.
But we often gain back what we have lost. Even so, we continue to believe that next time it will be different. Next time, we will keep it off. Next time, being thin will finally bring us happiness, self-worth, and, of course, love.
It took me a long time to realize that there was something more for me to learn about beauty. Different cultures have different standards (原则) of beauty. In Samoa a woman is not considered attractive unless she weighs more than 200 pounds. More importantly, if it’s happiness that we want, why not put our energy there rather than on the size of our body? Why not look inside? Many of us struggle hard to change our body, but in vain. We have to find a way to live comfortably inside our body and make friends with and care for ourselves. When we change our attitudes towards ourselves, the whole world changes.
24.The passage tries to stress the importance of ____________.
A. body size B. different beauty standards
- 6 -
C. culture difference D. attitudes towards life
25.What does the underlined word “everything” in paragraph 2 mean?
A. The whole world. B. All the problems.
C. All the dreams. D. All the truth.

B. The author probably got wounded in wars or accidents.
C. The author succeeded in losing weight.
D. The author has been troubled by her/his weight.
27.Which of the following statements is true?
A. One’s happiness is determined by a person’s weight.
B. Not all countries take being thin as the standard of beauty.
C. It’s entirely wrong to care about whether a person is fat or not.
D. Once a person loses weight, he/she won’t gain back the weight easily.

Last spring, I was fortunate to be chosen to join in an exchange study program. The moment I arrived in Paris, I was greeted by a nice French couple who would become my host parents. The bit of French I had taken in high school began coming out of my mouth; speaking the language would only become more natural over the course of the term. At the airport, we all got into the couple’s car and began the journey to their townhouse. We talked the whole way, getting to know one another.
Every day afterwards, I would eat breakfast with the two of them, and then we’d all go our separate ways for the day. In the evening, my host mother would make delicious dinners for the three of us. My experience was exciting until I received some shocking news from my program coordinator(协调人): There had been a death in my host parents' family and they would have to go away for several weeks to deal with all the business that arises from the death. That afternoon, I had to move out of one family's house and into another.
The coordinator told me I'd have a roommate and asked whether I would mind sharing a bedroom with an English speaker. To avoid speaking my native language, I asked not to be placed with an English-speaking roommate. When I got to my new room, I introduced myself to my new roommate Paolo, a Brazilian(巴西人), the same age as I, whom I was surprised to find playing one of my favorite CDs on his computer! In just a few hours, we knew we'd be good friends for the rest of the term.
I left France with many stories, so when people ask me what my favorite part of the trip was, they always hear about my Brazilian friend Paolo and the weekdays in class, weeknights on the town, and weekends exploring France we enjoyed together. I would recommend an exchange program to anyone who wants to experience foreign cultures and gain meaningful friendships.

We know that many animals do not stay in one place. Birds, fish and other animals move from one place to another at a certain time. They move for different reasons: most of them move to find food more easily, but others move to get away from places that are too crowded.
When cold weather comes, many birds move to warmer places to find food. Some fishes give birth in warm water and move to cold water to feed. The most famous migration(迁徙)is probably the migration of the fish, which is called “salmon”. This fish is born in fresh water but it travels many miles to salt water. There it spends its life. When it is cold, it returns to its birthplace in fresh water. Then it gives birth and dies there. In northern Europe, there is a kind of mouse. They leave their mountain homes when they become too crowded. They move down to the low land. Sometimes they move all the way to the seaside, and many of them are killed when they fall into the sea.

Recently, scientists have studied the migration of a king of lobster. Every year, when the season of bad weather arrives, the lobsters get into a long line and start to walk across the floor of the ocean. Nobody knows why they do this, and nobody knows where they go.
So, sometimes we know why humans and animals move from one place to another, but at other time we don’t. Maybe things just like to travel.

A. Animals move in order to find food more easily
