On a cold winter afternoon, I was walking home from a supermarket. I was feeling a little tired, as I was carrying my shopping bags. They were so heavy that I decided to stop to have a rest in the park. As I walked towards the gate of the park, I noticed a poor man walking out of the restaurant in front of me. He was holding a paper bag in his dirty hand. He walked to a nearby dustbin(垃圾箱) and started looking through it.
I suddenly felt sad. I knew this man would take all that he could get, so I went up to him and gave some fruit to him. The man looked up in surprise and took what I gave him. A big smile appeared on his face and I felt very happy. Then he said, “Wow! First someone gave me this sandwich, then some drinks, and now some delicious fruit. This is my daughter’s lucky day. Thank you, boy.” Then he went away, singing a song. Just then, I realized what the saying “Giving is getting” really meant. Everyone in the world needs help. Everyone can offer help and everyone will be helped by showing kindness. Giving sometimes doesn’t cost you much, but it means a lot to the people who you help. The man’s happiness at that moment comes into my mind every time I have the chance to help others.
25. The writer gave the poor man some fruit because ________.

B. It was the poor man’s daughter’s birthday that day.
C. The poor man had no money to buy delicious food for his daughter.
D. Giving never costs much.
28. The passage mainly tells us ________.
- 5 -
A. not to look through the dustbin B. not to be a poor man
C. to give others fruit D. giving is getting

What time of day can you think most quickly? Are you a morning person? Or does it take you a few hours to get your brain (脑)going? A lot of recent research suggests that we should pay attention to our body clock. It can tell us what time of day we can perform(体现) best at.
Many people work best later in the morning. This is because the body’s temperature takes time to rise through the day. Taking a warm shower when you wake up can help your body’s temperature rise quickly.
But everyone’s body clock is different and some are special. Morning people will get up early and work better early in the day. Evening people will work later but work better towards the end of the day.
Research shows that we’re better at some activities at certain times of the day. Physical performance (体能) is at its best between 3 pm and 6 pm, so it’s better to exercise later in the day.
Between noon and 4 pm, people begin to pay less attention. This is because we think less quickly after a big meal. Research also shows we become sleepy around 2 pm. This is why people in Spain take a short sleep in early afternoon.
Finally, it is best to eat when we’re active. This allows our body to burn calories (卡路里) better and stops our blood sugar levels (血糖)from getting too high.
29. ________ can tell us what time of day we can perform best at.
A. Morning people B. A warm shower
C. Our body temperature D. Our body clock
30. What is the best time for physical performance?
A. Between 3 pm and 6 pm. B. Between 7 pm and 10 pm.
C. Between noon and 4 pm. D. Between 5 am and 8 am.
31. Why is it best to eat when we’re active?
A. Because eating makes the brain unable to think quickly.
- 6 -
B. Because it makes our blood sugar levels higher.
C. Because our body can burn more calories.
D. Because our body needs a short sleep.
32. What is the best title (题目)for this article?
A. How can we work better
B. The best time to exercise
C. How can we keep healthy
D. The best time to do something
