Analysis of the novel ‘Bliss’by Katherine Mansfield

1 Introduction
Katherine Mansfield revolutionized the 20th century English short story. Her best works shake it self free of plots and endings and gives the story, for the first time, the expansiveness of interior life, the poetry of feeling and the blurred edges of personality. She is taught worldwide because of prominence in literature history but also because her prose offers lessons in entering ordinary lives that are still vivid and strong. And her fiction retains its relevance through its open-endedness—its ability to raise forting questions about identity, belonging and desire.[1] Bliss is one of the established ones, well known for its advancing writing techniques like narrative perspective, interior monologue, symbo1lism as well as the great theme revealed in ordinary life.
2 Analysis of the title
Bliss is similar to nirvana, which means great spiritual joy. It seems the story tells readers about the heroine Bertha’s feelings of bliss. It makes her want to run instead of walk, to take dancing steps on the off the pavement, just like a simple-hearted girl. The description goes like this: when you turn the corner of the street, you are e , suddenly by a feeling of bliss-absolute bliss!-as though’d suddenly swallowed a bright piece of that late afternoon sun and it burned in
