HISTORY
The origin of the high heel goes back many centuries in history. The first
precursors of stiletto heels were discovered in a tomb of Tebas
in Old Egypt, and date from 1000 BC. These heels possibly provided a
high social status to those who wore them.
In the 1400s, chopines (松糕鞋) or platform shoes, were created in Turkey
and were popular through out Europe until the mid-1600s. Chopines
could be 7 to 8 or even 30 inches high, requiring women to use canes [kein]
手杖 or servants to help them walk.
During the Middle Ages , both men and women would wear wooden soles
(鞋底),that were clearly a precursor to the high heel。

16th century
The invention of the high heel is attributed to Catherine of Medici(the wife
of Henry II, King of France), who used them due to her short stature, and
soon introduced them into fashion amongst the European aristocracy贵族.
During the 16th century, European royalty started wearing high-heels to
make them look taller。
1553-1558
Mary Tudor (Mary I of England), , wears heels as high as possible. By 1580,
men also wore them, and a person with authority or wealth was often
referred to as, "well-heeled".
18th century
In the early 1700s, King Louis XIV of France, who was only 5 feet 3 inches
tall, weared shoes with high heels called “Louis heels,” to increase his
height. They were often as tall as five inches. The king decreed that only
nobility could wear heels that were colored red and that no one's heels
could be higher than his own.
The late 18th century
During the French Revolution, most people wished to avoid any semblance
of wealth. So the heels became lower than at any time in the 18th century.
