General Introduction to the work in 3GPP
Work in 3GPP anized around the concept of release which can be defined as plete set of functionalities for a full work allowing new set of services to be deployed by operators
pleting a long evolution of the Wideband CDMA radio technology, 3GPP decided to work on a new concept of radio technology to allow further evolution having in mind a long term evolution. LTE was born. But this does not pletely parallel evolution of the WCDMA

Layer 1 specification
It can be separated in 2 parts
First part resulting from the work in RAN WG1 dealing with the description of the physical layer is now subject to the correction phase since last term.Functionalities described plete and no major changes are expected. Set of specification contained in series
Second part mainly concerning the Requirement and the Performances still need to pleted but this is already considered plete at 60% level. It is anticipated that this should pleted in December 2008. This work is mainly in the hand of WG4. This is a key activity as it is the premises for the tests activities. Set of specification contained in series
Layer 2 and Layer 3 (Signaling over Interfaces)
Over the radio interface:
Mainly under responsibility of RAN WG2
It covers all aspects related to the MAC, RLC and RRC
Set of specification contained in series
In between the Core and the work
Covers all the aspects from physical layer of the interfaces S1, X1 and X2
Set of specification contai
