"The American Dream" is an important theme in literature and cultural topics. It is deeply embedded in American culture. American dream is the ponent of American spirits. The USA is the only superpower nowadays in the world. Its achievements to a large extent owe to American dream. On the path to a strong China, it is of significance to study American dream. Most researches about American dream are limited on the level of literature. This paper intends to extend this topic to the real society. With the changes of the times, the American Dream has changed accordingly. It also affects the American values and social development. The United States President Obama reclaims the American dream, and emphasizes its importance in American history (Obama, 2008:21). This signal reminds us that the American dream will again play a vital role and guide the new trends of American society. This paper will pay much attention on the development process of the American dream and its influence on American people and the society, which is meaningful for the further understanding of American culture and the social development.

In Chapter 2, the author discusses the development course of the American dream and its features in different periods. Its influence on American characters and American society will also be analyzed.
