Developing the context
Comparison/contrast often helps us choose between parison/contrast also acquaints us with unfamiliar things: wrestlers help American readers understand the Chinese way of thinking, a political science textbook talks about France’s government (using our own government as a backdrop)
What parison and contrast?
Comparison shows how two or more things are similar
Contrast shows how two or more things are different
In most writing situations, the two related processes are used together, showing relationships
An analogy explains one thing paring it to a second, more familiar, thing.
It stands alone or enriches other writing. For example, the technique might help you to develop your contention/argumentation.
Selecting items parison
Any items pare must share mon ground.

Determine your emphasis on similarities, differences, or both. Determine the major focus of your para.
Make sure you treat the same or similar elements for each subject you will discuss
A good topic sentence
The topic sentence should make clear in what area parison /contrast is to be carried out. Also indicate whether you will focus on similarities or differences, or balance the two.
Show your writing purpose/attitude.
Identify your topic and arouse R’s interest. If you intend to establish the superiority of one item over the other, you might call attention to your position. If you’paring something familiar, you might explain the importance of understanding the unfamiliar item.
Organizing details
The block pattern (subject by subject) first presents all of the points parison for one subject and then all of the points parison for the other.
It works best with short paras or ones that include only a few points parison/contrast. The R can easily remember all the points in the first block while reading the second.
