The countdown to the Big Switch Off 2010 begins
The countdown to the Big Switch Off 2010 has begun.
The date for this year’s BSO is October 11-17 and the mission is to make an extra effort during the week to switch on to switching off all unnecessary appliances in your home, school, organisation or business.
Last year the reduction in energy use across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland during Big Switch Off Week was equivalent to an impressive 66,000 100 watt light bulbs being turned off for seven days.
Consumption was recorded as being per cent lower for the week across the pared to the week before, amounting to a financial saving of almost £50,000* – that adds up to approximately £ million a year!

David Parsons, deputy chairman of the East Midlands Improvement and Efficiency Partnership which funds the BSO, said: “Last year it was great to see various groups, schools, businesses and individuals taking part in the Big Switch Off, and we are looking forward to hearing what people will do to pull the plug on energy wasting habits again this year.
“The Big Switch Off may be a week long event but its simple messages can be used every day to enab
