The Big Race
A rabbit met a turtle .
“I will race you up that hill,” said the rabbit.
“I cannot race,” said the turtle.
“Look at my little legs.”
The rabbit made fun of the turtle .
“You are scared,” said the rabbit .
That made the turtle mad .
“I’ll race you,” he said.
At that the rabbit’s big ears went back.
He got down.
He got set for the race.
“Are you set?” he asked.
“All set,” said the turtle.
“Go!” cried the rabbit.
The rabbit raced away.
The turtle walked, but not very fast.
The big race was on.
It was a bright summer day, and the sun was hot.
The rabbit raced up the hill.
Then he looked back.
He did not see the turtle.
