Edmund Spenser (c. 1552 – 13
January 1599) was an English poet best known for The Faerie Queen, an epic poem and fantastical allegory celebrating the Tudor dynasty and Elizabeth I. He is recognised as one of the premier craftsmen of Modern English verse in its infancy, and one of the greatest poets in the English language.

The Shepherds’ Calendar
The Shepherds’ Calendar was Edmund Spenser's first major poetic work, published in 1579. The poem introduces Colin Clout, a folk character originated by John Skelton, and depicts his life as a shepherd through the twelve months of the year.
《牧人月历》是作者最早的田园诗作,是仿照罗马诗人维吉尔等古代牧歌写成的。这十二篇《牧人月历》,每篇正好对应一年中的一个月份,除首尾两首外,都是对话体,主要人物是热情的牧羊人柯林·克劳特。作品描绘了淳朴和谐的乡村生活,赞美人与自然的契合,略带暗讽宗教的虚伪。
Amoretti and Epithalamion
《小爱神》由88首十四行诗组成,一般认为是写给他的未婚妻的。诗中既歌颂世俗的爱情,又将爱情理念化,赋予其神秘色彩。诗体结构上改意大利十四行“4,4,3,3,”式为“4,4,4,2”式,韵脚安排比较特abab,bcbc,cdcd,ee。这种像连环扣似的韵式被称为“斯宾塞式”。《婚曲》是为两位贵族女子出嫁写的一首贺诗,把她们比作两只天鹅在泰晤士河上顺流而下直到新郎府邸,诗歌语言优美、形式整齐、音乐性强,既典雅,又清新,较明显地体现了伊丽莎白时代的诗歌风格。
