Introduction
English native speakers are used to think in an abstract way and good at expressing concrete things by means of abstract concepts. Such as awareness, flexibility,embarrassment, satisfaction and so on. The translation of abstract nouns is a plicated, and their correspondent Chinese versions should be determined according to contex.
性:-ty,-ness,-ce (necessity必要性,correctness正确性, dependence依赖性)
化:-ization, -tion, (modernization现代化, abstraction抽象化)
度:lengh 长度, intensity强度
主义:-ism, -ness (patriotism, capitalism )
Chinese----concrete: human-centered 具体事物为中心,以实表虚,以具体形象表抽象内容。
English---abstract: abstract concept centered (with the use of many abstract nouns)抽象概念为中心,以大量抽象名词来表达复杂思想和微妙的情绪。
Two characteristcs of abstract nouns:
Most of abstract nouns are derived from verbs and adjectives.
Abstract nouns are often existed in the form of NP, especially N+of+N.
Eg: the end of poverty and ignorance and disease
the destruction of th system
Note: Not all abstract nouns can be used as abstract nouns. Although some abstrac nouns are also derived from verbs adjectives,their expressions have been established well, so in this case, they can only be considered mon nouns.
Examples:
very anxiety is born of our knowledge of what is now possible for each other and all. (abstract noun)
我们之所以焦虑不安是因为我们知道对每一个人,对所有人可能发生什么事。
2. It is a revealing fact about our language and our culture that someone deciecated to pursuit of knowledge pared to sucha freak.
(common noun)

Abstract nouns derived from verbs being translated into verbs
Examples:
(1). The 1967 UN document calls for the settlement of the Middle East conflict on the basis of Israeli withdrawal from occupied territories and Arab acknowledgement of Israel’s right to exsist.
