On a Tur bo Decoder Design for Low Po wer Dissipat ion

Abstract :For a lower power Turbo decoder , author described a kind of method a bo ut optimize the number
of iterations and shutting down the idle decoder s to reduce the dissipation. Because t he power of me mory
whic h used to store the branch metric and forwar d metrics in the SISO occupy a bout 70 % the decoder’s
power dissipation. So ,aut hor p roposed a scheme which is to reduce the power by increasing the logic cir2
cuit to decrease the number of memorizers. The result of experiment proved that t he modifie r method co uld
decrease about 12 % to the traditio nal method’s powe r dissipation. So , we can see that realize t he point
whic h is the main power dissipation is the key of the lower power de sign.
