1概述
土的破坏主要是由于剪切引起的,剪切破坏是土体破坏的重要特点
工程实践中与土的抗剪强度有关的工程主要有以下3类
(1)土质土坝的稳定
(2)土压力
(3)地基的承载力问题

This photo shows a failure of a tailings dam retaining gypsum tailings in Florida. It can be seen that the wet gypsum tailings flowed like a viscous liquid when the dam failed.

This tailings dam in South Africa retained tailings from a platinum mine. Note the very flat slope formed by the tailings as they came to rest, indicating their very low shear strength.

The slide extended for about 1100 feet along the embankment. At the north end, near the inlet-outlet structure visible in this photo, the scarp at the top of the slide was about 30 feet high. At the bottom of the slope the toe of the slide moved horizontally about 30 feet out into the reservoir.
