摘要:本论文尝试着去研究一个传统的论题——财产在简·奥斯丁的文学婚姻中的作用,
笔者是从一个新的角度出发把《傲慢与偏见》和《爱玛》这两本小说中的婚姻关联起来, 并从
三个方面来阐述:在其中的六个婚姻中, 财产是一种媒介, 双方因财产而认识继而结合; 对于
另外的两个婚姻来说, 它是当事人和谐婚姻关系的一种安慰; 而在最后一个婚姻中, 财产则是
他们结合的必要前提。

姻问题,通过各对人物关系的分类分析,发现财产对婚姻双方关系的建立发挥着三种不同的作用:

财产是人物建立婚姻必不可少的的必要前提。这些发现对于进一步研究奥斯汀小说中的社会关系

Introduction
Virginia Wolf once wrote that “Of all great writers, Jane Austen is the most difficult to catch in the
act of greatness.”(Odmark 1970: XI ). Austen was one of the first English women to break the male
monopoly through novel writing. She was born in 1775 into a clergyman family. She acquired her
education as well as a quiet and uneventful life in the county of Hampshire in England. Aside from
doing domestic chores at home, she spent nearly all her posing and revising the six witty and
romantic novels that brought her global fame—Sense and Sensibility, Pride and Prejudice, Persuasion,
