The themes in this poem are mainly the lack of hope and spiritual guidance in human society, a lack of an emotional outlet to express ideas and opinions, and the meaninglessness of life. Page ?5 Theme ? The first theme is a lack of spiritual guidance and hope in society. When the narrator says, ” the eyes are not here ” the author sees the eyes as spiritual leaders. ?
