一、市场概况和发展历程
中国茶都---安溪全国茶叶批发市场于2000年动工兴建，同年底一期工程建成投入使用。随着二期、三期工程先后竣工投入使用，市场总占地250亩，建筑面积18万平方米，总投资5亿元，建有1860间（套）商住两用店铺，三个茶叶交易大厅， 3000多个交易摊位。是一个集茶叶交易（实体市场、网上市场）、信息交流、文化旅游为一体，功能齐全、配套完善的大型、综合性专业茶叶批发市场。十多年来，先后获得国家农业部 “定点市场”、商务部 “双百市场工程”农产品批发市场、中国茶叶流通协会授予 的“全国重点茶市”、全国工农业旅游示范点评定委员会授予的“全国农业旅游示范点”等称誉， 2007年通过了国家“绿色市场”认证，2011年被福建省授予“诚信市场示范点”。
开业10多年来，市场持续繁荣，交易额逐年上升，至2011年，，，相当于安溪茶叶总产量的四分之一在茶都完成交易，总产值的四分之一在茶都实现，茶都成为全国最大的乌龙茶集散地。同时，引进上百家来自县外全国各大茶叶主产区的茶叶企业入驻经营。
10多年来，茶都市场从起步到持续繁荣，从简单管理到规范、系统、科学，从单一交易方式到综合贸易，以及管理服务配套、功能的不断完善、提升，中国茶都各方面工作均取得了全面的进步, 从规模效应、功能配套、文化品位、交易量、交易额、辐射面、社会效益、发展速度等方面综合比较，茶都都走在全国同类市场的前列，成为安溪茶产业的一个形象窗口,茶业界的一面旗帜
