Technical Rehabilitation and Effluent Standard Update for Old Wastewater Treatment

Abstract In the early 21st century, Shanghai rehabilitated 11 old wastewater treatment plants located in center area to meet na-
tional discharge standards, all of which were built in the 1980s. In view of the substantial variance in influent quality, discharge stan-
dards, land usage and conditions of equipment of each wastewater treatment plant, some different technical routes and new processes
were adopted in accordance with the actual situation. With the rising energy-saving requirements however, these plants should reach
stricter discharge standards. The experience and effects of last rehabilitation for the purpose of providing reference for the future re-
construction was summarized.
