现有通风方式为中央边界与对角混合式通风，通风方式为负压抽出式，一水平大巷标高-225m，二水平大巷标高-450m。煤层总体呈单斜构造，煤层倾角9～18°。煤层伪顶为炭质泥岩，厚度0～；直接顶为粉砂岩，局部为泥岩；老顶为粉砂岩。煤层底板主要为泥岩和粉砂岩，直接底以泥岩为主。九里山矿采掘区域均为煤与瓦斯突出区域。目前矿井主要采煤方法为走向长壁倾斜分层开采，全部陷落法管理顶板，其中有两个炮采工作面和一个综采工作面。
其九里山煤矿--地面工业广场（指连接煤矿井下又为煤矿井上下服务的所有地面设施），主要有储煤场、洗煤厂；有综采设备库、油脂库、机修车间、绞车房、空压机房、办公楼、职工宿舍、澡堂、食堂、地磅房、消防加压泵房、材料供应仓库、材料装车线；有变电所、配电站；有锅炉房、联合建筑、黄泥灌浆站、静压水池、污水处理站、等等。
如何让选择工业广场：宜结合地形地貌选择平面位置较大的地段，结合井口位置，结合出煤路线和运输路线，还要结合进场公路或者铁路，减少保护煤柱留设量；另外还要考虑当地常年风流的主要方向、排洪沟的走向等众多因素。
