定性方法与定量方法间存在许多争议，支持定性方法的学者认为定性方法可以提供深入且整体的观点，定量方法则难以做到，并且很容易受到理论基础、样本选择、分析工具的影响；支持定量方法的学者认为定量方法更科学，减弱了主观因素和情景因素的影响，定性方法则常受其干扰，并且没有严谨的理论支持。
定量研究是在OC理论研究的基础上，提出用于测量、诊断和评估OC的模型，研发出一系列量表，对OC进行可操作性、定量化的深入研究。在理论基础上建立模型，根据模型设计量表，使用量表收集数据，最终通过分析这些数据得出结论。定量研究的关键是量表和统计分析（韩巍、张含宇，2003），量表是定量研究的基础，只有解决好量表问题，才能更科学地研究OC
