本课程教学目标为：
本课程是为培养土木工程专业人才所设的一门专业基础课。 课程具有基础性及较强的实践性，目的是通过本课程的学习，使学生了解和掌握有关建筑工程建设的常用材料使用情况及新材料、新工艺的应用情况，在课程设计和毕业设计中，更好地与实际相结合，为毕业后从事本专业的监理、施工、管理与科研工作打下基础。 
要求：使学生具有建筑材料的基础知识和在实践中合理选择与使用建筑材料的能力，并获得主要建筑材料试验的基本技能训练。

1、本课程为此专业的基础课程，在进行教学当中根据教学需要对个别章节进行了删减。 主要培养学生对建筑材料的熟悉，成为建筑类高素质人才。
2、课堂教学以课堂讲授为主，教学手段采用多媒体课件、投影等教学手段。教学方法以启发式为主，将实际工程与理论分析结合在一起，通过课堂课前提问、课堂讨论、课后作业等方式调动学生的学习积极性，提高教学效果。
