    我国有着丰富的天然药用植物，利用现代植物化学、生物化学方法从天然药物植物中寻找新的药用化合物可能是一条捷径。国际、国内的医学领域都有这方面成功的先例，如抗癌药物紫杉醇是从太平洋冷杉的树皮中提取的，红豆杉树皮中含量也很丰富。抗疟疾药物青蒿素是从传统中药黄花蒿中提取得到的。我国传统使用的疗效显著的中药材、中成药品种众多，可以探索从中分离出一种或数种单一分子的有效成份，利用现代药理学方法阐明其机理，可能会有所收获。医学上的葛根粉针、双黄连粉针、穿琥宁粉针等已经开发成功并进入市场。
    （三）充分利用生物技术，高起点利用生物技术开发新药
    我国利用生物技术开发兽用新药取得了长足进步，且研究成果丰硕。如猪白细胞干扰素、精制蛋黄抗体、基因工程疫苗、转移因子、微生态制剂、益生素制剂等都已经进入市场并获得较高认可。
