the irony which i inv oke is no cruel deity. she mocks n either love nor beauty. she is gen tle and kin dly disposed. her mirth disarms and it is she who teaches us to laugh at rogues and fools, whom but for her we might be so weak as to despise and hate.

我越思考人生的问题，就越觉得我们应该选择“讽刺”和 “怜悯”作为我
