“禁止结婚的亲属关系”是指《婚姻法》第7条所规定的直系血亲和三代以内的旁系血亲。
（1）直系血亲。法律意义上的直系血亲包括两种情况，一种是出于同一祖先，有自然血缘联系的亲属，包括父母子女间，祖父母、外祖父母与孙子女、外孙子女间。即父亲不能娶女儿为妻，母亲不能嫁儿子为夫。爷爷（姥爷）不能与孙女（外孙女）婚配，奶奶（姥姥）不能与孙子（外孙子）结合。第二种是指本来没有自然的血缘关系，但法律上确定其地位与血亲相等，如养父母和养子女之间的关系相当于直系血亲，这种情况称之为法律拟制直系血亲。虽然这些亲属关系没有血缘关系，不会产生遗传学问题，但是依据我国长期形成的伦理观念和风俗习惯，以及从保护养子女、继子女的原则出发，具有拟制直系血亲的男女双方禁止结婚。

旁系血亲是指具有间接血缘关系的亲属，即源于同一祖先的非直系血亲。
