Abstract: Three commonly used app roaches for Land U se Planning vicinity of chem ical sites were reviewed briefly:
‘generic’distances, consequence based app roach, and risk based app roach. The p resent situation of these ap
p roaches were p resented, and the comparability and uncertainty of these app roaches were discussed. To overcome
the lim itation of these app roaches, one expected that a more harmonious and integrative app roach would be devel
oped. An integrative app roach, the ARAM IS methodology which combines the strengths of both determ inistic and
risk based app roaches, was thus p resented briefly. Finally the conclusion was made and the objectives of future re
search on diverse specific fields were put forward.
