Introduction
Payment is an important part in the inter-
national trade.
Generally ,there are three major payment
methods: remittance, collection and letter of
credit.
It means one party (usually the buyer) re-
mits a certain sum of money to another usual- ly the seller) in different countries through banks . Remittance includes: Telegraphic
transfer(T/T) and Demand Draft (D/D). And
Mail Transfer(M/T) used to be one of remit-
tance, but now is rarely used. In fact, in
international payment T/T monly used.
2. Collection
It is another kind of payment methods in
international trade. It means that the exporter
entrusts his bank to collect payment from the
importer. Collection can be divided into
documentary collection (shipping documents
attached to the draft drawn by the exporter)
and clear collection (only draft without any
shipping documents).The former is often
used in international trade while the latter is
occasionally used. And there are two types of
documentary collection, . documents
against payment(D/P)and documents against
acceptance (D/A).Compared with D/A, D/P is
more safe.
3. Letter of Credit
It is relatively reliable and safe method of payment. But because of much expense and time in opening a credit, now it is often replaced by other payment methods.
