1. see a friend in the distance
in the distance 在远处,在远方(具体的)
at/from a distance 远远地,遥远地,久远地(可为抽象的距离)
eg: We saw lights in the distance.
He had loved her at a distance for years.
keep sb. at a distance 与...保持距离,与...疏远、冷淡
2. When in Rome, Do as the Romans Do.
如果状语从句中的主语和主句主语一致,而且状语从句谓语中有be动词,可以将状语从句的主语连同be动词一起省略。
引导这类状语从句的连词有when, while, though,if, unless, although等,其结构模式一般为:
连词+v-ing/v-ed/./n./pron./adv./adj.+主句

although通常情况下可以和though互换,在使用时,不与But连用,但可以接yet,still等。

as引导让步状语从句时,必须倒装,其倒装结构主要有:
n. + as +S+be+其他,单数名词前省略冠词

adv.+as+S+谓语动词+其他
