Scorpius(天蝎座)
Scorpius is one of the constellations of the zodiac(黄道十二星座). It lies between Libra(天秤座) to the west and Sagittarius(人马座) to the east. It is a large constellation located in the southern hemisphere near the center of the Milky Way(银河).

Most of the bright stars are massive members of the nearest OB association(天蝎人马天域).
Antares is a red supergiant star in the Milky Way galaxy and the sixteenth brightest star in the nighttime sky Along with Aldebaran(毕宿五the main star of the Halcyone), Spica(角宿一the main star of the Virgo), and Regulus(轩辕十四 the main star of the Leo) it is one of the four brightest stars near the ecliptic(黄道) . Antares is a variable star(变星), whose apparent magnitude(星等) varies from + to +.
Antares is a class M supergiant star, with a diameter of approximately 700 times that of the sun; if it were placed in the center of our solar system, its outer surface would lie between the orbits(轨道) of Mars and Jupiter. Antares is approximately 600 light-years (180 pc) from our solar system. Its visual luminosity(绝对光度) is about 10,000 times that of the mass of the star is calculated to be 15 to 18 solar masses. Its large size and relatively small mass give Antares a very low average density.

Deep sky objects
For the scropius locates on the Milky Way, this constellation contains many deep sky objects such as the open clusters Messier(梅西耶星团) 6 (the Butterfly Clustsr) and Messier 7 (the Ptolemy Cluster), and the globular clusters Messier 4 and Messier 80. Also in the southern end of the constellation , there is the open star cluster(疏散星团) NGC 6231.
