Project: Making a newspaper
Group work (3—4 members)
Goals: Writing to inform, to entertain
Deadline: 9th week (Oct 29/30)
Tasks:
1. Decide on a name for your newspaper.
2. Divide the work among the group.
3. Collect materials and information, write
4. Draw pictures or prepare photos for the stories (as needed).
5. Plan layout and design for the paper.
6. Proofreading.
The end product: 1-page newspaper
Paper size: A3
One-side
In this project, disregard all national news and make your newspaper truly local.
Page 1. Front page
lead story, news in brief,
1) HUST news: (2)
2) school/class news (2)
3) Masthead: name of the paper, time, class .
4) Staff introduction (brief)
Requirement:
1. Hard news structure: inverted pyramid style, headline, lead, body.
Reporter’s name
2. lead story: position, headline type.
3. headline: tense, omission, etc.
4. picture and story in balance
5. Check spelling and mistakes before handing in.

Content (informative, clear, interesting,)
Layout( text positioning, fonts, headline impact )
Correct spelling, grammar
