The first and the last story are about
relationships between mothers and daughters.
Between these two pairs of mothers and daughters, we can find generation gap obviously.
Finally, however, we can find love and hope in their relationships.

Daughter: Wiverly smart, always want to satisfy and please her mother
The daughter is good at chess and she wins the championship.
