Introduction
The Sea-Wolf is a 1904 psychological adventure novel by Jack London about a literary critic, survivor of an ocean collision es under the dominance of Wolf Larsen,-the powerful and amoral sea captain who rescues him. The Sea-wolf is a very fascinating masterpiece with tremendous charm. Although among London's novels, it is not the best one, we can't deny or ignore its special style. Especially,the leading character ,Larsen Wolf,is ettable. Ambrose Bierce wrote, "The great thing—and it is among the greatest of things—is that tremendous creation, Wolf Larsen...hewing out and setting up of such a figure is enough for a man to do in one lifetime...The love element, with its absurd suppressions, and impossible proprieties, is awful.
Wolf Larsen is a tragic madman created by the author under the theory of Social Darwinism and superman philosophy .He lives by sacrificing the rights and interests of other people. The others on the boat are ruled by him with strength and are treated violently. He has all the brutal characters of savage. As a result, there are some misunderstandings that Jack London supports Wolf Larsen and Superman philosophy. However, the tragic result of Wolf Larsen shows his opposite standpoint, though he praises the power of Wolf Larsen and his ability. In the image of Wolf Larsen, the awful features of Nietzsche's superman and brutality, immorality and intolerable selfishness are pointed out. According to the author' own words, the purpose of writing it is to show his opinion against the Superman Philosophy. He plains that most people misunderstood him.
