摘要
设计作为当代社会的重要内容之一,与经济和文化相关联,对社会的规划和建设起着
举足轻重的作用。20世纪,我们面临的是一个越来越多地被设计的社会,人们发现设计成
为人类文化研究的代表性领域。由于设计能为社会日常生活提供更多史料,及因与消费的
密切关系成为科学、技术、社会研究中重要支点,从而使人类文化研究变得更为具体真实。
于是,设计史的学科建设备受人们关注。
西格弗莱德·吉迪恩(1888-1968)是瑞士历史学家和建筑评论家。他是著名的建筑、
设计评论家,也被公认为最早的设计史学者之一。他有许多著作, 《空间·时间·建筑》
及《机械化掌控》是比较重要的两部作品。《空间·时间·建筑》是一部极具影响力的关
于现代建筑历史的标准作品,《机械化掌控》则创建了一种崭新的史书编纂模式。
本文一方面会对西格弗莱德·吉迪恩及其设计理论做基本的介绍,另一方面还从设计
史研究的角度出发,通过和尼古拉斯·佩夫斯纳的著作《现代设计的先驱者—从威廉·莫
里斯到格罗皮乌斯》的比较研究,对《机械化掌控》创建的一种崭新的史书编纂模式、新
的设计史观做探讨。以西格弗莱德·吉迪恩理论作为研究来源和依据,表明对设计史的研
究应当引入更为广阔的文化研究方法,阐述其无名史观的普通文化观,阐释其大众文化观,
探讨机械化对现代文明对社会的影响及其历史和哲学内涵。

Abstract
Design, as one of the most important part of modern society, related to economy and culture,
plays an absolutely important role in planning and construction of the society. In the 20th
century, we face an increasingly designed society, people found design has e the
representation of the human field of cultural studies. Because design can provide more historical
data and it has e very important things of Science, technology, social studies, studying of
human culture has e more tangible and real. Thus, people pay more and more attention to
the history of design.
Sigfried Giedion (1888 –1968) was a Swiss historian and critic of architecture. He was a
renowned design and architecture critic and had been regarded as one of the first design
historians. He has some famous works, such as "Space, Time And Architecture" and
"Mechanization mand". With "Space, Time , And Architecture" Giedion wrote an
influential standard history of modern architecture. "Mechanization mand"
established a new kind of historiography.
In this thesis, Siegfried Gideon and his design theory will be presented basically, On the
other hand, from the perspective of design history, a new kind of historiography which
established in "Mechanization mand" was also studied through pare with
Nicholas Pevsner's book "Mod
