Abstract
Regional urbanization and urban regionalization are the important performance of
different stages of regional integration in space. The process of regional urbanization are
affected together by centralization economy, scale economy and scope economy, there
will appear the economic district of high ability inside the region which can arouse and
facilitate the process of regional integration. Under the background of economic
globalization, the development of regional integration deeply affects the international
competitive ability of region or even nation. Wuhan Metropolitan Area, an integration of
urban district consists of a vice-province city (Wuhan), five subordinate cities ( Huangshi,
Huanggang, Ezhou, Xiaogan, Xianning), and three county ( Xiantao, Tianmen,
Qianjiang ), is an economic district which is most densely distributed in population,
industry and city of Hubei province. To facilitate actively the development of regional
integration of Wuhan Metropolitan Area can effectively optimize the regional spatial
structure of Hubei province, improve the petitive ability of Wuhan city and
Hubei province, and provide the strategic support for the development of central region.
In view of the regional development and urbanization process, this paper looks back
to the origin and evolution of some developmental theories relating to cities and regions
of both home and abroad, identifies and analyzes the basic definitions of Metropolitan
Area, Urban Agglomeration and Megalopolis. Then, the paper classifies its connotation,
that is regional integration contains two levels of regional integration in economy and in
space and both have the close relations, and discusses its developmental form in
space ,theoretical foundation and dynamic mechanism. After that, the thesis pays more
attention to analyze the current development of Wuhan Metropolitan Area, the paper
concludes that there exist several problems in the process of regiona
