ABSTRACT
Urbanization reflects the modernization level of our society; it is inevitable in the
process of modernization and industrialization. Urbanization not only shifts the
surplus-labor into cities, solving the problem of structural unemployment, it also
promote the operation of agriculture in large scale, push the development of township
enterprises, giving farmers more opportunity to increase their es, so that they do
not need to depend solely on agriculture. With an introduction to the background of
the urbanization process of rural areas undertaken in China, the thesis offers
experiences and lessons regarding to urbanization of rural areas inside and outside
China, the thesis elaborates the outstanding role of urbanization in solving residential
problem, developing rural economy, and bridging the gap between city and rural areas.
With cases from Xinyu, Jiangxi province, this thesis studies how to improve living
standard and promote the stable development of the society through urbanization, the
thesis also studies how to solve the problems arisen from the process, and offers
solutions to push urbanization, so that urbanization can e a reliable way of
labor shifting, securing agriculture safety, promoting prosperity in rural areas and
raising the social status of farmers. Urbanization will definitely benefit the public,
local government and the whole country.
