三峡大学硕士学位论文《马戏团之夜》——一部女性主义元小说姓名:王芳申请学位级别:硕士专业:英语语言文学指导教师:田祥斌20070501 i内容摘要在后现代小说创作中,元小说是特别引人注目的小说形式之一。它表现了作者对文学创作本身的关注,反映了作家在创作过程中的自我意识。元小说倾向在文学范畴内反对传统的惯例和规范,体现着对传统的批判和改造意识。元小说的批判改造意识使这一小说创作形式受到女性主义作家的青睐。元小说成了女性写作和女性主义批判的有力工具,通过对文学表层结构的异化,引起人们对小说所体现的深层思想内容的探究。《马戏团之夜》是一部典型的元小说。本文拟从元小说的角度来解读该小说所体现的女性主义思想。第一部分即引言部分对安吉拉·卡特的创作进行了简略分析,并就国内外对《马戏团之夜》的研究成果进行了概括。第二部分则在已有的研究基础上,通过对元小说和传统小说的比较,进一步探讨了元小说的定义,并对元小说在具体文本中所体现的创作手法和具体操作手段进行了简要介绍。第三部分对小说进行文本分析,从复调性、开放的叙事结构以及反讽戏拟的角度来解析《马戏团之夜》的元小说性,复调性主要体现在小说的跳跃的片断式叙事视角和多声部的叙事声音上,开放的叙事结构体现在小说的中国套盒的多层嵌入式叙事结构,而反讽戏拟则通过对阅读过程的戏拟来表现。第三部分阐释了小说通过对于元小说反传统的表层结构的运用所体现出的激进的女性主义思想。第四部分则对小说所传达的激进女权思想进行社会的和历史的剖析。安吉拉·卡特运用元小说的力量解构了文学话语的传统,打破了父系传统对文学模式的局限以及对人类行为的约束,自由传达了她的女性主义思想。但在现当代和谐社会,她作品中所表达的女性乌托邦及其激进的女性主义思想把男性驱逐到边缘位置,这是远远不能解决女性所面临的社会问题的,只有在倡导两性平等的社会结构下,平等意识深入人心,才有可能达到真正的平等与和谐。关键词:《马戏团之夜》元小说元小说性女性主义 iiAbstract Metafiction is a typical postmodernist writing model. It reflects the author’s concern on fiction writing itself and the self-consciousness during the process of writing. Metafiction tends to be against the traditional literary mode and canon, aims to criticize and reconstruct the literary convention. It is just this critical sense that makes metafiction the favor of feminist writing and criticism. Metafiction grasps people’s concern on the deeper implication through the defamiliarization of the superficial literary structure. Nights at the Circus is a typical metafiction. This thesis aims to discuss the author’s feminist viewpoints through analyzing the metafictionality of Nights at the Circus. The first part, that is the introduction, provides an overview of fiction writing of Angela Carter and the literary criticism made on Nights at the Circus at home and abroad. The second part offers a definition of metafiction based on those definitions from authoritative dictionaries and influential critics.
