Southwest Electric Power Design Institu te, Chengdu 610021, Sichuan Province, China) ABSTRACT: As grounding grids of ultra high voltage (UHV) substation are usually buried vert ically across soil layers, a new method was presented for calc ulating ground resistance of grounding grids in vertical two-layer soil. The ratio of unknown ground resistance to refe rence ground resistance and the ratio of soil resistivity beside the interface of vertical two-layer soil were defined to reduce the number of parameters and simplify the analysis. The functional relation of these two ratios was obtained by data fitting. Coeffi cient expressions of the function were gained by analyzing the soil struct
