Chite Resources, Science, and Industry Division Summary In response to the widespread destruction brought to the Gulf Coast by Hurricane Katrina, the 109 th pleted action on two separate emergency supplemental bills (. 109-61/. 3645 and . 109-62/. 3673), which together provide an additional $ b illion for emergency response and recovery needs. Both measures match the funding requested by the Administration —$ billion in . 109-61 and $ billion in . 109-62. Of bined amount provided in the two measures, $60 billion enables the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to provide emergency food, shelter, and medical care to areas stricken by the hurricane and other disasters.
