Edmund Spenser
(1552—1599/1/13)
A great poet of the British Renaissance.
Spencer is one of the most outstanding poets from Jeffrey Chaucer to Shakespeare. He was born in a draper family in London,England
He studied literature, philosophy and part of natural sciences at Cambridge
university in 1569.
His literary position was second only to Shakespeare, and he enjoyed the
reputation of “poet painter”, “poet musician” and “poet of poets".

Two years after
graduation, he became a hanger-on of an aristocrat in a nobility, met with Sir of Philip Sidney.
Under the influence of these poets, Spencer created and published his poem
In 1598, his house burned down in the Irish uprising, and he fled back to London. The next year(1599), Spencer died in London.

Spenser died in London, in a melancholy death, Spencer was invested by an earl in Westminster Abbey, resting at the tomb of Chaucer
Representative work
In 1579 spenser wrote and published his pastoral collection(牧歌集), The Shepheardes Calendar《牧人月历》.
He also wrote a long poem called “Colin Clouts Come Home Again”1595 《克劳次回家记》 a sonnet of "Amoretti" 1595《小爱神》"Epithalamion”1595《婚曲》, etc.
His masterpiece is “The Faerie Queene ”《仙后》. In 1580, Spencer went to live in Ireland, the queen gave his in 1590~1596 writing.
