The origin of Mother’s day
The tradition to celebrate Mother’s day started from ancient Greece. On January the eighth, the ancient Greeks paid their respect to the mother of the gods(赫拉). But at that time, the worship of the goddess was just a superstition. It’s completely different from the respect of the motherhood.

In 1876, Anna Jarvis, who worked at church, wished someone could create a mother’s day to commemorate and praise mothers from all over the world.
Mrs. Jarvis worked at church over 25 years. After her death, her daughter, Anna set up Mother’s Day successfully.
Now, Mother’s Day, which is on the second Sunday of May has become an international celebration.

Carnation
In 1936, Americans issued the first kind of commemorative stamp about Mother’s Day. There’s a kind mother holding a bunch of beautiful carnations.
