[向烈士致敬]向烈士致敬的话

　　每十二个月5月的最终一个星期一，是美国的阵亡将士纪念日，这不但是一个向军人致敬的日子，也是缅怀逝去的大家的时刻。阵亡将士纪念日起源于南北战争以后，于1882年正式更名为纪念日，1971年前总统尼克松宣告该纪念日为国家假日。
　　本期的《滋味人生》中，我们将听到的是现任总统奥巴马于2021年5月26日每七天电视讲话中有关阵亡将士纪念日的呼吁，她号召全美人民共同缅怀那些为国捐躯的将士。
　　This weekend, as we celebrate Memorial Day, families across America will gather in 1)backyards and front 2)porches, fire up the barbeque, 3)kick back with friends, and spend time with people they care about. That’s as it should be. But I also hope that as you do so, you’ll take some time to 4)reflect on what Memorial Day is all about; on why we set this day aside as a time of national remembrance.
　　It’s fitting every day to pay 5)tribute to the men and women who wear the uniform of the United States of America. Still, there are certain days that have been set aside for all of us to do so. [1]Veterans Day is one such day—when we are called to honor Americans who’ve fought under our country’s flag.
　　Our calling on M e m o r i a l D a y i s different. On this day, we honor not just those who’ve worn this country’s uniform, but the men and women who’ve died in its service; who’ve laid down their lives in defense of their fellow citizens; who’ve given their last full measure of devotion to protect the United States of America. These are the men and women I’ll be honoring this weekend, and I know many of you are doing the same.
