【中文摘要】民主是一个非常古老的话题，也是人们一直都在关注的话题。民主是人类政治生活的理想，是人类主体自由的体现。在西方从古希腊罗马的直接民主到近现代的代议制民主再到当今热议的协商民主，民主化的进程从未停止过。而政党自产生以来，在政治生活中扮演的角色越来越重要。并且与政治的民主化有着非常密切的关系。西方发达国家已经进入了民主化的阶段，从民主化的过程来看，政党也的确在其中起到了非常重要的作用。我国是社会主义国家，实行的是共产党领导下的多党合作的政党制度。共产党作为执政党在推动我国社会主义民主政治的建设中起着巨大的、不可替代的作用。因此，研究政党在政治民主化进程中的作用对我国共产党如何从政党的层面来推动国家层面的民主有着巨大的理论意义和现实意义。本论文从政党、民主和民主化的基本概念着手，阐述了不同学者关于政党和民主的观点和认识。接着本文详细的阐述了政党产生的过程，从政党产生的过程来看，可以说政党是政治民主化的产物。而当政党产生以后又对政治民主化起着非常重要的作用，一方面，由于政党内部的民主、政党间的竞争、监督、合作等因素使政党对政治民主化起着巨大的促进作用；另一方面，由于政党的寡头化倾向、政党间的趋同、政党的腐败、政党代表社会民众功能的减弱等因素导致政党在某种程度上又阻碍着政治民主化的发展。通过对西方发达国家政党在政治民主化进程中的作用研究，笔者提出要大力加强共产党党内民主、充分发
