In 1996, Visa signed its first agreement with Beijing to support the operation of the Beijing regional card processing network. Additionally, Visa has established extensive relationships with the Shanghai, Shenzhen and Guangzhou Golden Card networks.

Visa International also worked with Shanghai to connect Shanghai’s ATM network to Visa’s global ATM network. Today, over 2,000 ATMs in China are connected, enabling Visa cardholders visiting China to withdraw Renminbi from ATMs.
