British Agriculture
Summary
The land available for farming in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland shrinks every year as demands for roads and the expansion of towns slowly erodes the areas of farmland. The land available for crops farming is relatively limited.
Nevertheless, British farmers produce enough food to supply two thirds of the needs of population of over 62 million(2010). The British agricultural industry is one of the most efficient in Europe because only % of the population is engaged in agriculture.

British Crops
Animal husbandry(牧业+养殖业) dominates the farming economy of the country and a large part of the crops, particularly grains are produced for animal feed and fodder.
Because of some limiting climate factors, wheat has to be imported.
Britain’s main cereal (谷类作物) crop is barley(大麦).
The other significant crops are potatoes, sugar beet(甜菜), kale(甘蓝) and beans.
Horticulture (园艺作物) is a very important part of Britain’s farming economy(10% of the output value).
