主要由角膜、晶状体、玻璃体、视网膜等组成。晶状体和角膜共同作用相当于一个凸透镜，外面的物体发出的光或者反射的光进入人眼后，经晶状体折射在视网膜上成一个倒立、缩小的实像，视网膜相当于一个光屏可见人眼的成像原理和照相机的成像原理是相同的。
近视眼
由于晶状体太厚，折光能力太强，或眼球前后方向上太长，导致成像在视网膜前面，由于凹透镜对光线起发散作用，因此可以利用凹透镜矫正近视眼。
远视眼
晶状体太薄，折光能力太弱，或眼球前后方向上太短，不能在视网膜上正常成像，成像于视网膜的后方，由于凸透镜对光线起会聚作用，因此可以利用凸透镜矫正近视眼。
