建南村现隶属广州市白云区人和镇（原属蚌湖镇），是广州市北郊著名的侨乡和文化之乡，历史上多为番禺所辖，1958年1月划归广州市郊区。1987年后广州市郊区分设白云﹑芳村﹑天河﹑黄埔4区，属白云区管辖。1987年成立原蚌湖镇，建南村为其辖属7个行政村之一。
