　　这座新城，也是杭州正在规划建设的23个新城之一。西湖区区委书记郑荣胜说，随着杭州从西湖时代向钱塘江时代迈进，之江新城在杭州有着“承东启西”的特殊功能。“这是杭州范围内可开发面积最大、环境最优、前景最好的新城之一。”
　　在国内的其他城市，刘太格有不少项目，包括宁波、扬州等地，三四百平方公里的大项目也有，最近正在做的，是孔子故里曲阜的规划。
　　保护现有的山水

　　那么，在他的眼里，未来的之江新城是怎样的？刘太格说，前期他已经看过相关的图纸，昨天下午也去现场实地踏看。初步的构思是要重视现有的山水和田园的保护，在这个基础上，要把交通做得通畅，与中心城区联系得更好。
　　“要充分利用江岸和山脚的特殊环境，把环境突出来。另外，中国美院的校址也在这里，里面有许多艺术家，这种优势也要体现出来。”刘太格说，这是他目前的构想，其他的要等资料收集得更全面之后才可以逐步完善。
　　在接受记者采访时，他笑着打了个比方：“做城市规划就像跟土地谈恋爱，要理解对象的个性和特色。目前，我处在摸索阶段。”刘太格说，现在有了沪杭高铁，他从新加坡到上海之后来杭州也方便了不少，以后肯定会多来。
　　据了解，目前，双方的合作已进入实地考察阶段，最终，设计方将完成对之江地区的总体规划，包括区域功能、空间结构、交通系统、土地使用、建筑高度控制以及发展时序图等等。
